Skip the Skip: 5 German Ads You’ll Want to Watch (#4)

By Stephen Fuchs on Email @StephenWFuchs

We’ve searched the web to find the best commercials coming out of Germany. Why? Who doesn’t love taking a look into the marketing adventures of a foreign land. Here’s your chance to see 5 German ads that probably have real Germans waiting for the ‘Skip’ to appear.

Kaufland: Für die besten Mamas der Welt

German retail and grocery stores always seem to have the most emotional and touching commercials, and this one that Kaufland released for Mother’s Day is absolutely no exception. Several other stores released some great feel-good ads for the holiday, but this was the best of them all. It is worth the 3-minute runtime.

Volkswagen: Coming Home

Instead of focusing on the car itself, Volkswagen decided to showcase the Golf’s new Area notification feature with a couple in the midst of making love who suddenly get the notification the “he” is coming home. Watch the whole ad for the twist that comes at the end.

IKEA: Feng Chewy

A trip to IKEA is an experience to say the least, and in this ad for the store in Germany highlights the classic interaction with the furniture in the best way possible. The timing of the ad couldn’t be better with the new Solo: A Star Wars Story hitting theaters.

Deutschland Card: Hätte, hätte…

Deutschland Card, which offers reward points for shopping in some of the country’s most popular stores, created this comical ad to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their loyalty card. The ad asks what should, coulda, woulda happen if you used their card over the last ten years.

Edeka: Stadionatmosphäre

As Germany gears up to defend their World Cup title this Summer, it’s no surprise that German companies are taking advantage of the hype in their ads, like this one from Edeka. Again, German grocery stores know how to work magic with their commercials.
