I was a fan of Amazon’s first original German series You Are Wanted when it debuted on the company’s Prime Video platform across the world last year, and since binging the entire six-episode season in one sitting, I’ve been anxiously awaiting the show’s return. But for fans living in the US, like myself, are we going to be cut out from seeing the show’s anticipated second season when it debuts in Germany on May 18?
Amazon quickly renewed the series after the first season saw a strong first-week debut, but the show remained quiet on details until the first trailer for You Are Wanted‘s second season made its way onto the internet last month.
The trailer made it clear that there would be even more twists and turns, more action, and a May release on Amazon.de. Surely that means the rest of Amazon’s video markets, like the U.S., will get it too, right?
Unlike the release announcements for season one, which touted the show’s international release, press releases for You Are Wanted season two have only made mention of a German and Austrian release. Any mention of the show’s return on Amazon’s American site was nowhere to be found.
The only glimmer of hope in the show’s second season release date announcement came from series producer and lead actor Matthias Schweighöfer, who was quoted saying: “After the great success of the first season, I could not wait to tell the story of Lukas Franke, and I’m very proud to show Prime members around the world the second season of You Are Wanted.” [emphasis added]
After hitting several dead ends reaching out to Amazon, we finally got confirmation on Thursday from You Are Wanted‘s social media team when they informed us that “You Are Wanted Season 2 will be released on Amazon Prime US as well,” but we may have to wait a little longer before we get the chance to see the story’s continuation into season two. We were told, “the exact date is still unknown”.
While Germany will be able to enjoy You Are Wanted‘s second season on May 18, fans in America will have to sit patiently for a little while longer. Hopefully not too much longer.
