It is one of Germany’s and Europe’s most talked about new shows — and most expensive — and now viewers in the U.S. have their chance to see the masterpiece for themselves… Babylon Berlin is now streaming on Netflix!
The Berlin crime drama, set in 1929, is based on a set of crime novels by Volker Kutscher and follows a detective investigating a Russian mafia run porn ring. With the events unfolding during this time in history, it allows viewers to get a glimpse at an important turning point in Germany. At the time Berlin was seen as one of the world’s most progressive cities, but the society is on the verge of collapse as both the weakening world economy and the rise of a right-wing political extremists are knocking on the door.
Babylon Berlin debuted on German pay-tv in October and the 16-episode first season was a major success, leading Netflix to grab the U.S. rights before its American competitors had a chance. The series, which the streaming service has branded as a Netflix Original, is now streaming to subscribers and can be watched with English subtitles.
