While I have never had the opportunity to sample prison food for myself, I’ve watched enough movies and tv shows to know it’s anything but delicious in most cases. Though for a prison in the German town of Bergisch Gladbach (say that 5 times fast), a contract dispute has led to a revised meal plan which may or may not be an improvement — McDonald’s.
German prisons have had the reputation of being quite pleasant when it comes to accommodations, and while we don’t know how the previous meal plan worked, the McDonald’s version involves inmates placing their oder and handing it off to a guard who then makes a trip to the nearby golden arches to pick up and deliver the meal of choice.
If you are a fan of McDonald’s food substitute (editorial note: I am not 😉), you may be thinking this is a pretty sweet deal, but before you start plotting your entrance, know that out of the food chain’s menu is off limits. Inmates are given only a few low-cost choices: a McToast with bacon, ham and cheese for breakfast and a lunch choice of a hamburger, cheeseburger or veggieburger.
It appears that until the prison can find a replacement for their vendor who had to pull out due to its own supply issues, McDonald’s will have to continue filling the food void. The question is, are the prisoner’s lovin’ it?
