Polar Bear Fritz Berlin Zoo

Most Adorable Baby Polar Bear Shall Be Named Fritz

I think its safe to say that Germany’s latest polar bear cub can melt the heart of even the coldest of people, but until today, this cuddly white bear has gone nameless. Born at the Berlin Tierpark Zoo in November of 2016, zoo keepers were only able to determine its gender until a month ago, and with the “It’s a boy” announcement out of the way, it was time to give him a name.

Because we live in a world of social media, Berlin’s Tierpark Zoo decided to let the people weigh in with their name ideas. After more than 10,000 names were submitted from across the world, a seven-person jury including zoo officials and selected media, settled on a name that represented his German heritage — Fritz.

The naming reveal happened on Twitter late Tuesday with a simple message: “My friends call me Fritz” – Short and simple is the new name of our little polar bear cub in #TierparkBerlin.

Since we can all use something to smile about today, check out some of the cutest Fritz pics from the Berlin Tierpark Zoo posted on on Instagram below:
