Harry Potter Steals the Show As 2016’s Top Seller in Germany

Harry Potter und das verwunschene KindAlmost ten years passed since the final chapter in the Harry Potter series came to an end before author J.K. Rowling decided to bring the beloved characters back to life this past summer, and while the book may have lacked the excitement the wizarding series once had in the early 2000’s, the tale still raked in big numbers and topped the German book sales charts in 2016.

Rowling proved that she still has the magic touch, and not only did she bring in the most sales with the German translation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Harry Potter und das verwunschene Kind), but she also found the original English version coming in as the third best-selling book in the country. That’s quite an accomplishment for a story going on almost 20 years!

British author Jojo Moyes brought in the second highest sales with her book The Ship of Brides (Über uns der Himmel, unter uns das Meer).
