While not as publicized as the regular ceremony, the International Emmy Awards honor TV programming excellence outside of the United States, and during Monday night’s 44th awards gala in New York, three of the prestigious top prizes went to deserving German talent.
Deutschland 83‘s win for Best Drama Series (pictured above) may be the most recognizable out of the three German honors, but the others took the top acting and documentary awards.
Christiane Paul took home the Best Performance by an Actress win for her work in Unterm Radar (Under the Radar), a thriller in which she plays a judge who finds her own daughter to be a leading suspect in a Berlin terror attack.

In the realm of real life, the story of the Iraqi refugee that led to the misinformation about weapons of mass destruction, Krieg der Lügen (War of Lies), took the top honor for Best Documentary.
If you’re looking to watch the winning titles, it won’t be easy as the only one available in the US is Deutschland 83, which can be streamed on Hulu or purchased. As for the others, you will have to wait for options to become available. When they do, we will be sure to feature them in our new video series Instant Kino.
