After finishing a trip to the island of Rügen, a small German island on the Baltic Sea, a U.S. tourist caused a security scare at the Hamburg Airport after two World War II grenades where found in his luggage.
Police rushed to the scene to detain the 34-year-old traveler while a bomb squad was called in to handle the grenade. At the end of the ordeal though, the grenade shell was only filled with sand.
Despite the man’s lack of judgement, trying to bring an explosive-looking device through security, police released the tourist and let him board a flight back home.
The whole ordeal delayed a few flights, but the quick response and efficiency of the police allowed operations to quickly get back to normal.
