Tired of getting honked at when the light turns green and you’re too engrossed in writing your next text? If you answered “yes”, don’t do it, but if you must, Audi is there to help you out as their 2017 cars will come with an option to alert you that the light is about to turn green.
Each year cars are becoming smarter and smarter with technology that is slowly removing the drivers need to control operations, so it’s no surprise that the German automaker would tap into the already connected street lights found in most cities.
While it is nice to know when the light will change to green, it also works the other way around, letting the driver know when to expect to stop. The idea is to cut down on drivers rushing to catch the next light, and instead learn to follow the green wave.
Convenience is always nice, especially with the added frustration of rush hour traffic, and Audi sees this as an opportunity to help that traffic flow. Pom Malhotra, Audi’s connected vehicles manager, said in a statement that the “improvements could lead to better overall efficiency and shorter commuting times.”
Until that idea comes into fruition, enjoy your friendly “finish that text” countdown.
