Germany’s largest supermarket chain Edeka doesn’t really have a lot of name recognition outside of its home base, but after releasing their Christmas ad on YouTube, their name has gone international as the video quickly became a viral hit.
Edeka’s Christmas ad packs quite the emotional punch, which seems to be a trend for holiday-themed ads, but it does so in an extreme way, and over 7.5 million people have felt the impact of the ad on YouTube alone.
The ad centers around an elderly man who finds himself spending Christmas dinner alone, as his daughter leaves a message saying she won’t make it this year but will try the next. He proceeds to tell the viewers that it is unlikely that she will ever come home for Christmas.
