When German musician Alex Diehl sat down to watch the November 13 football match between France and Germany, he, like many others, had his breath taken away when he heard the bangs of the terrorist attacks that hit the city of Paris. Not quite knowing how to react, he wrote out all of his feelings in a song, which after posting it to Facebook, went viral with over 5 million views.
The 27-year-old singer composed the piece in a matter of minutes, and without much thought, took out his cellphone to make the impromptu video. Diehl’s song “ein kleines Lied” (“a little song”) wasn’t meant to be the viral hit that it has quickly become, but because of it, it has inspired many with its emotional punch.
“Hate is born of fear, war is born of hate, until humanity is on the ground, until everything here explodes and everyone loses their mind,” are just a few of the lyrics from Diehl’s song.
