Volkswagen had their eyes set on becoming the world’s largest automaker by 2018, but by a narrow margin, the German automaker was able to achieve their goal a few years early as they narrowly edged out the longstanding leader Toyota in the first half of 2015.
During the first six months of 2015, Volkswagen sold 5.04 million vehicles worldwide versus Toyota’s 5.02 million. The numbers between the two companies are very close, but Volkswagen will surely take the win and promote the new ranking for as long as they hold the number one spot.
