A race followed by a good Oktoberfest dates back to the early 1800’s, and while the race was done with horses back then, the Peoria German-American Society, in Illinois, will be done on foot with their 5K “Das Bier Run” on September 21st.
The race, sponsored by the Peoria Jaycees, the Peoria German-American Society, and the Peoria Park District, takes runners along the riverfront to end their 5K journey at the Peoria Oktoberfest (Sept 19-21), where they will be awarded with free entry and a free beer or soda.
Runners who register early will also receive a commemorative 1 liter stein.
Since it’s an Oktoberfest themed run, participants are encouraged to dress up in festival attire or costumes to add to the fun, and prizes will be handed out to the best outfit.
For more information and to register, head on over to the Das Bier Run website. Advance registration is $25, which increases to $30 September 1 and on race day.
