The European Cities Marketing (ECM) study, known for being one of the most compressive sources for European tourism statistics, has highlighted the city of Berlin as being the fastest growing among the Top 10 tourist destination cities in Europe with an 8.2 percent increase in overnight stays in 2013.
London still tops the chart when you look at the total number of visitors, but the growth was only 3.3 percent over 2012. Paris, which also saw higher numbers of overnight stays showed a 0.6 percent decline in year-over-year visitors.
“Berlin maintains its unbroken attractiveness as city of freedom and tolerance and as authentic place of history, coupled with a magnetism for young, creative minds from all over the world,” said visitBerlin CEO Burkhard Kieker upon seeing the report. “Berlin is the only world city that offers the full package for little money. This mixture is the recipe for the success of our city.”
Since 2009, the city of Berlin has seen their tourism industry grow 42.7 percent, which is the strongest growth among the top ten cities in Europe. Most of the growth is attributed to international travelers from Spain, the United States, UK, China and Russia.
