The German-American Steuben Parade Committee of NY is gearing up for this year’s 57th German-American Stueben parade with the crowning of Stefani Kraker as Miss German-America and the announcement of this year’s parade Grand Marshal, Emmy award-winning journalist and news anchor, John W. Muller.
Miss German-America 2014 and Her Court
21-year-old Stefani Kraker was among three finalists during the May 18th pageant at Manhattan’s Reichenbach Hall. Kraker will ride the “Queen’s Float” on Fifth Avenue during the NYC Steuben Parade on September 20th, along with her two princesses: Pavlina Schriel and Brittany Schreiber.
Scholarships were awarded to the crowned winners with Kraker taking home $3,000 and the two princesses receiving $1,000 each.
Besides crowning Miss German-America, a Junior General, Christian Tomas Fraehmke, and 2 Junior Princesses, Lucy Guarnaschelli and Emily Pogozelski, were introduced.
Departing Miss German-America, Kristina Kren, remembers this past year fondly: “Being Miss German-America was an experience I will always cherish. It was so rewarding being able to represent my heritage in both the United States and Germany! I hope that young women of German-American descent will be able to take advantage of this same opportunity in years to come.”
John W. Muller Selected As Grand Marshal
Born in Queens NY and raised on Long Island, Muller is a proud German-American whose ancestors hail from Bavaria. He has become an icon of both local and national television news broadcasting while holding an anchor position at New York City’s Emmy Award-winning “PIX 11 Morning News” and now holding an anchor spot for ABC News’ “World News Now” and “ABC News Now”.
Muller joins a long list of prominent German-Americans from New York who served as Steuben Parade Grand Marshals. Dr. Henry Kissinger, George Steinbrenner, Donald Trump, Dr. Ruth Westheimer, Carol Alt and Linda Schmidt are but a few of those Big Apple personalities. Through the years, Muller has been a huge supporter of the Steuben Parade, often attending events with his family, and covering a few of the Parade Weekend’s festivities on the news.
The German-American Steuben Parade is held every year on the third Saturday of September. This year, the Parade will be held on Saturday, September 20 on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, from 67th to 86th streets. The Parade honors the many contributions of America’s largest ethnic group: The German-Americans.
