When Germany’s popular hair care brand Schwarzkopf decided to release their latest hair product on Valentine’s Day, the company decided to run a special love-themed ad to gain some attention. Shortly after putting the ad up on YouTube, it became a viral hit, taking the number one spot in the Viral Video Chart with over 7 million views in the last week.
The two-minute ad features a couple in love with a mix of romantic, yet sometimes sappy, poetry in which the man expresses his love for his girlfriend throughout a series of his thoughts. He describes the little things that make her special, including their love for each other just the way they are. Of course, since it is an ad for a hair product, there are plenty of shots of the girl showing off her hair.
Susanne Keyzers, a spokesperson for BBDO Proximity Dusseldorf, the ad agency that dreamt up the ad, told Fast Company that it didn’t take long to decide on a love-themed ad for the Valentine’s Day launch. However, she explains “we wanted to add some depth, so we came up with the idea of a love declaration, a story told from his POV presenting the woman he loves to the world in a very intimate, true, and loving way.”
