Have you wondered which cities around the World are best suited for your youthful nature? That is what the YouthfulCities Index set out to find as it ranked 25 global cities using 80 unique indicators. The results for the inaugural index placed Toronto as the number one spot for youth ages 15-29, but Berlin came in at a close second, beating out New York City in third place.
Voting involved input from youth that fit into the targeted age group and including indicators such as entertainment, lifestyle, and business, all with the goal of finding the perfect place to live, work and play.
Berlin has had the reputation of being a youth hotspot in Germany, and this recent Index just reiterates that fact. Out of all the countries ranked, Berlin took the top spot for Music and Film, as well as Internal Transportation.
Toronto taking first place in the 2014 Index may seem a little suspicious since the organization is based in the city, but YouthfulCities claims that had nothing to do with the results. “It is indeed a coincidence, but not a bias! Also, don’t forget that we have a London office, and youth from all our cities were involved in every step of our process – from intital category building, to the development of the indicators, to the development of the research methodology and finally the data collection and now the promotion of the Index.”
It will be interesting to see how the list evolves over the years as more countries are included and whether or not there is a drastic change in the youthfulness of cities year after year.
