As a part of their 50th anniversary celebration, the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest (GACC Midwest) decided to finally get on board in the mobile space with their brand new app for iOS and Android.  GACC Midwest is hoping that their app will not only connect current members with the latest partner news and upcoming events, but also act as a tool to “outreach to new audiences,” according to the Midwest branch President and CEO Simone Pohl.

GACC Midwest App ScreenshotThe app’s developer, 004 Technologies USA, also happens to be a member of the GACC Midwest and has an idea of what tools members and non-members would want.  004 Technologies USA president Patrick MacKay commented that the “ability to reach more people more often is essential to accomplishing the Chamber’s mission. Moreover, the app provides corporate sponsors a new platform and channel for promotions and advertising, encourages more frequent member-to-member and Chamber-to-members interactions, and finally aims to increase event awareness, thereby driving registration and subsequent attendance.”

So far the app only provides access to upcoming events as well as details of recently held events with photos.  In our testing of the app, we were only able to see Chicago events instead of seeing what is going on in the entire midwest region that the GACC Midwest supposedly covers.  Being that the name of the app, once downloaded on iOS, is AHK Chicago, it seems that it will be the main region of focus.

Throughout the year, GACC Midwest is promising major feature updates to include the Chamber’s member directory and the ability to import and share upcoming events.  If you are a GACC Midwest member, this app is probably something you want to download, but non-members probably won’t find much use for the app until more features are added that they can take advantage of.
