Last night, Sunday December 9th, PBS Station WTTW in Chicago featured two special programs airing the works of two most successful German musical stars. Max Raabe and his Palast Orchestra’ rendition of “Tonight or Never” was followed by Herbert Grönemeyer at his ‘I Walk’ concert in Potzdam, Germany featuring guest star Bono from U2. This evening in Chicago was special because Herbert Gröemeyer was actually present at the WTTW Studio for the airing of this program to talk about his Debut English Language Album and DVD release, ‘I Walk’.
Even more exceptional about this evening was the live appearance of Herbert Grönemeyer at the DANK Haus German-American Cultural Center in Chicago after the WTTW airing. The visit, arranged on very short notice by DANK Haus Chicago in conjunction with German Pulse, was part of a special VIP reception and live screening of the PBS television special ‘I Walk’.
The crowd of enthusiastic and devoted fans gathered in the Skyline Lounge of the DANK Haus and could hardly wait for his arrival. Loud cheers broke out to greet Grönemeyer when he finally arrived on this wintry Sunday evening. He shared quality time for pictures and autographs, but most importantly, mingled with his fans giving them a thrill of a lifetime. His easy-going and relaxed style made this evening a special event for all in attendance.
Although ‘I Walk’ was released in Europe in October of this year, Grönemeyer is on a pre-release tour in the United States, with visits in Washington, New York and Chicago during this last weekend to celebrate the official US Album release expected on February 26, 2013. The release will also kick off his 2013 US concert tour with performances at the Chicago Theater on February 23, and the NYC Beacon Theater on February 26.
Though not well known in the United States, Herbert Grönemeyer is Germany’s most successful pop/rock recording artist having sold over 18 million albums over the last 33 years. With his release of ‘I Walk’, Herbert Grönemeyer is trying to offer fans in the United States and the rest of the English speaking world, the English version of his celebrated musical style and lyrics that made him so popular in Germany. Check back soon for a review oh his debut US album and look out for exciting exclusive content coming in the future, including great giveaways!
