Just days before the 2012 Olympic games kick off in London, hundreds of hipsters gathered in Berlin to take part in the 2nd annual “Hipster Olympics” on Saturday. Instead of competing in games that test competitors athletic abilities, these olympic games require skills in mostly quirky games. Participants compete to be champions of vintage mustache designing, canvas bag sack racing, vinyl record spinning, horn-rimmed spectacle hurling while chugging beer, and tug-of-war using skinny jeans in place of the typical rope.
There are a few athletic events as well though… just a little more “hip”. One contest involves racing across a course on top of plastic crates, and another requires the “athletes” to jump over sticks that rest upon crates while tossing a handful of paper confetti to teammates. By the end of the day, the goal is to be the team that wins the title of “Hipster of the Year” and take home the Golden Club Mate beer trophy, but having a good time is just as good. Team Jam FM ultimately took home the prize during this years’ games.
