The German carmaker Audi has revealed its latest concept vehicles at the 2012 Wörthersee Tour and one of its most interesting concepts is not even a car. Audi has revealed their electric bike concept, called the e-bike Wörthersee, which is a lightweight 3.53 pound carbon fiber bike packed with some high-tech features. The bike features a built-in computer and touchscreen that displays statistics on the rider’s speed, distance, and tricks if the rider chooses to have a little bit of extra fun on the bike.
Bike riders can choose from three different riding methods: the standard manual pedaling, a combination of pedaling and electric motor, or full electric mode. The top speed maxes out at 50mph in the combo mode and 31mph on electric only.
Now you can’t have a high-tech bike without a few high-tech distractions. The e-bike Wörthersee has built-in Facebook integration that can be set up to post your crazy stunts on your newsfeed or offer up challenges against other riders throughout the world that you can complete. Your smartphone can even be used to unlock the security system on the bike.
While Audi’s e-bike Wörthersee is only a concept at this moment, I can definitely see a bike like this appearing on the streets in the near future. What could go wrong with a population of bike riders updating their Facebook page as they peddle down the road?
