The German discount grocery chain, Aldi, has confirmed that it will be opening 30 stores in the Houston, Texas area over the next 3 years. Since the US was faced with economic problems over the last few years, Aldi has seen great success in the states and has been expanding its presence all throughout the country to meet the growing demand for discount groceries. Aldi first entered the US market back in 1976 and now operates over 1,200 Aldi stores and more than 360 Trader Joe’s locations. This newly announced expansion plan is big for Texas as the only stores that are in the state happen to mainly be in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Roughly 10 of the 30 stores are expected to open in the spring of 2013.
In a recent statement, Aldi division vice president Scott Huska said that “Our history and recent growth in Texas has us poised for great success in the Houston area as more and more shoppers are discovering the high-value, high-quality shopping experience that Aldi offers. Our expansion will bring job opportunities with excellent pay and benefits to the Houston area. We are excited to bring these benefits to Houston as we continue our expansion in Texas.”
