It looks like investments in original German tv shows has proven successful for both Netflix and Amazon as the two exhibit no signs of slowing down when it comes to picking up new TV shows. Amazon is the latest to add another to the lineup as the company announced on Tuesday that it had ordered a new series, Beat (working title), set in Berlin’s popular club scene.

The seven-part series stars Jannis Niewöhner (Berlin Station) as young drug- and sex-addicted club owner Robert Schlag, who’s known as Beat around the scene. With police scrambling to control a growing crime network of human organ trafficking, Beat’s deep connections into the seedy side of Berlin’s club culture may be their only hope. Soon Beat becomes caught up in his own past as he sets out on a adrenaline rushing fight for his life.

“breathtaking adventure in Berlin’s club scene”

“‘Beat’ is a breathtaking adventure in Berlin’s club scene with some of the best German-speaking actors,” said Christoph Schneider, managing director of Prime Video Germany. “It’s always our goal with Prime Video to provide Prime members with unique series and films of the highest caliber that tell surprising and exciting stories.”

The idea for Beat came from director Marco Kreuzpaintner, who will make his TV directorial debut with the show. Kreuzpaintner’s previous movie credits include the popular coming-out drama Sommersturm (2004) and the sex-trafficking thriller Trade (2007).

Karoline Herfurth, who also stars in Amazon’s other German-language series You Are Wanted, will star in Beat alongside Christian Berkel (Inglourious Basterds), Alexander Fehling and Kostja Ullmann.

All seven episodes will be available to stream to Amazon Prime subscribers in late-2018.
