Watch the Viral Ad that Volkswagen Was Afraid to Air

Volkswagen has rightlfully chosen to err on the side of caution after the emissions scandal broke out around its line of vehicles, and after finishing production on a Super Bowl-worthy ad, the German automaker almost scrapped the idea out of fear that the humor of it could backfire. Thankfully Volkswagen enlisted a research firm to test the waters on the comedic spot, and after making quite the impression, the ad was released onto YouTube where it blew up to become a viral hit.

After its online success, Volkswagen gained the courage to start running it on TV and the Hamburg agency that came up with the ad, Grabarz & Partner, is now being recognized with awards around the world.
