Obama and Merkel to Publicly Reunite in Germany on May 25

Former President Barack Obama has been quite since handing over the presidency to Donald Trump in January, but that will come to an end on May 25 as he reunites with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.

During the event, Obama and Merkel will take part in a larger discussion centered around the topic of “Being Involved in Democracy: Taking on Responsibility Locally and Globally”. Coincidentally, while the discussion is underway, Trump will be in Brussels to meet with NATO leaders on May 25th before kicking off his summer European tour.

According to a statement from Bishop Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, the chair of the Evangelical Church in Germany, the four-day event is “being jointly sponsored and planned by the Kirchentag and the Obama Foundation”.
