HARIBO: Everyone’s Favorite Gummy Will Be ‘Made in America’

By Stephen Fuchs on Email @StephenWFuchs

One of Germany’s most iconic brands is about to get the ‘Made in America’ seal, and it’s not a car — it’s HARIBO. The gummy candies that are a staple in any house with kids — or us well-behaved ‘adults’. I’m sure this is a piece of Germany even Trump would put his seal of approval on — it’s more American jobs right?

On Wednesday, HARIBO announced that they acquired land in Wisconsin to build their first US manufacturing plant, saying it is part of a plan that’s been in the works for some time. “HARIBO of America is the fastest growing sugar confectionery business in the USA,” says Hans Guido Riegel, Managing Partner of the HARIBO Group. “…hence the strategic importance of our manufacturing facility to commence production in 2020.”

According to Wes Saber, Executive Vice President and CFO of HARIBO of America, when the site is completed, it will be “one of the largest facilities in the confectionery industry”.

With the estimated completion date of 2020, that gives us American’s three more years to put up with the ‘Made in Turkey’ variety. Will America taste better? I’ll be happy to taste test!
