Tesla Seeks Help from Germany to Increase Production

By Stephen Fuchs on Email @StephenWFuchs

Tesla announced their most significant acquisition in company history Tuesday morning with the news of the electric car company entering into an agreement to take ownership in Grohmann Engineering, the world-renowned engineering company based out of Prüm, Germany.

As Tesla continues to expand globally, it has faced pressure by both consumers and investors over its struggle to meet production goals. Tesla recently said that it hopes to increase its production to 500,000 cars in 2018, which is a significant increase from the roughly 80,000 cars in 2016.

“it’s important to bring in world-class engineering talent”

“Because automation is such a vital part of the future of Tesla, the phrase I’ve used before is that it’s about building the machine that’s building the machine,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on a call with journalists Tuesday morning. “That actually becomes more important than the machine itself as the volume increases. We think it’s important to bring in world-class engineering talent and our first choice was Grohmann.”

Grohmann Engineering is considered one of the world’s leading highly automated manufacturing firms, which in part is the result of founder and CEO Klaus Grohmann’s expertise and vision. With the newly formed Tesla Advanced Automation Germany, Grohmann will be staying on board to run the show, and will see over 1,000 advanced engineering and skilled technician added to his company over the next two years, up from todays 700.
