After picking up the US distribution rights to Germany’s pick for their Academy Award Entry, Sony Pictures has released the first U.S. trailer for the highly talked about film Toni Erdmann, which will be hitting select theaters on December 25.

This father/daughter drama is mixed with what looks to be quite a lot amount of humor. The previously nonexistent father, Winfriedcomes bursting into his daughter Ines’ life as she’s headed to a business trip in Bucharest. Winfried takes on the persona of “Toni Erdmann” as he makes an effort to get close to his daughter, who’s personality couldn’t be any more opposite than his own.

Toni Erdmann has received a lot of praise from critics after debuting at the Cannes Film Festival, and it is something Germany is hoping will carry over to those deciding the nominations for the Academy Awards.
