Netflix isn’t the only video streaming service with some German news this week as Amazon just announced their plans to release their first original German-language TV series and they have tapped one of Germany’s biggest stars to make it happen.

Matthias Schweighoefer has written, directed and acted in a number of successful German hits for the big screen, but with this new series Wanted, it will mark the first time that he has taken on both acting and directing roles.

Wanted will be centered around Schweighoefer’s character who is a project manager at a Berlin convention center but his life is turned upside down when a hacking attack puts him and his family in serious danger.

“With our first regional Amazon original production we implement not only the desire of many of our customers for exclusive German content, but also extend our service to new audiences and establish Amazon Prime also as an important partner for producers and creative professionals in this country,” said Christoph Schneider, Amazon’s managing director of Prime Video in Germany.

Amazon will be releasing Wanted in Germany and Austria in 2017, but has not announced and plans or dates for a wider release, so U.S. Prime members may not get to watch the suspense thriller for a while.
