Apple CEO Tim Cook made a rare public visit to Germany this week, visiting the popular German BILD newsroom along with a surprising meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss a range of topics.
According to BILD, Cook’s meeting with Merkel centered mostly around security, which has been a hot button topic in recent months. Discussions of education, environmental protection, and net neutrality were also on the agenda.
This was the first time Cook had met the German leader, and commented that the meeting left him “impressed by her deep knowledge of many different topics.” He added that Germany’s strong stance on data privacy is understandable and that Germans “have the same views on privacy as I do”.
The exact purpose for Cook’s public visit to BILD isn’t quite clear, beyond discussing his meeting with Merkel, but while there, he was given a tour of the newsroom technology and was given a piece of the Berlin Wall.
