Cologne Cathedral Night

The popular travel website TripAdvisor just announced their first ever Travelers’ Choice Awards, which is a listing of the top tourist stops around the world based on traveler feedback. Just about every travel category is covered, and the results can be narrowed down by location, making it a great resource for anyone looking to find the top sights to see on their next trip, wherever that may be. If it happens to be Germany you’ll find the typical locations, but what is the number one must see place in the country?

The Cologne Cathedral surprisingly tops the list as the top landmark in Germany, beating out Neuschwanstein Castle which came in at second place. Managing Director of the Cologne Tourist Board, Josef Sommer, was delighted with the news by stating that the “first-place ranking and the many authentic travel reports from the world’s largest travel community once again underscore that Cologne Cathedral is perceived internationally as an outstanding and unique example of all the things that Germany has to offer tourists”.

TripAdvisor determines the winners of the Travelers’ Choice Awards based solely on traveler evaluations over a 12 month period. In the case of the Cologne Cathedral, 2,059 user evaluations and 1,566 photos of the Cologne Cathedral made their way onto the TripAdvisor website.

As for the other categories of attractions, other areas of Germany received some love as well. Berlin’s Pergamon Museum ranked as the number one museum in Germany, Munich’s English Garden was voted the top park in the country, and the Europa-Park in Rust took the number one spot in the amusement park category.
