ALDI has really taken off and made a name for itself in the United States since the economic downturn and has become a real competitor in the budget friendly shopping market.  Now and again you will find some great specialty items, but overall most of their items seem like generic (yet still good tasting) items of more popular brands you will find in your larger grocery stores.  After proving successful in their European stores, ALDI is rolling out their “Specially Selected” premium brand in the United States to show that there is more to those “generic” items than people may think.

“At ALDI, our focus is on delivering the highest quality products at the lowest possible prices,” said ALDI’s president Chuck Youngstrom. “Now, with our exclusive Specially Selected line, we’re able to offer the more than 25 million customers who shop our stores each month gourmet foods at ALDI everyday low prices. Each Specially Selected product was developed with exceptional taste at an excellent value – helping to meet our customers’ increasing demand for premium, quality food at affordable prices.”

In Europe, many of the Specially Selected items have impressed more than just a few customers and have even won awards for their quality.  These gourmet items will be offered in limited quantities as a part of ALDI’s popular Special Buy Program, and will include items such as premium meats and cheeses, German coffee, and gourmet pastas.  Some on the upcoming items available under the brand will include:

  • Specially Selected™ Havarti – plain, dill, jalapeno ($2.99/8 oz.)
  • Specially Selected™ Blue or Feta Cheese Crumbles ($1.99/5 oz.)
  • Specially Selected™ Goat Cheese Log – plain, honey, garlic & herb ($1.99/4 oz.)
  • Specially Selected™ Premium Roast Ground – Regular or Mild Coffee ($4.99/17.6 oz.)
  • Specially Selected™ Gourmet Vinaigrette Dressings ($1.99/12 oz.)
  • Specially Selected™ Pizzelle Cookies ($2.99/7 oz.)
