Steinway 160th

It has been 160 years since Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg, a German immigrant in New York, created the first Steinway & Sons piano.  Over the years this company’s high quality hand crafted pianos have been the top choice among 97% of professional piano soloists around the world.  Steinway & Sons manufactures all of its roughly 2,500 yearly pianos out of their New York and Hamburg facilities, making this company as German-American as you can get.

To celebrate their 160th anniversary, Steinway & Sons will be holding a variety of special events across the United States, giving attendees a rare inside look at how the company creates their must have musical instruments.  For the next month the company will be holding screenings of the award-winning Steinway documentary Note by Note and presentations on the craftsmanship and artistry that makes their pianos so desirable.

Later this summer, Steinway & Sons will host a very rare one day VIP tour of their New York factory on June 22nd.  Not many people get the chance to receive an up close tour of the process, but Steinway craftsmen are opening up to give guests a special look at the entire creation, stating from the lumberyard to the last inspection before being shipped out to the customer.  Pre-registration is already open for this summer event.

Also to commemorate their anniversary, Steinway & Sons is releasing a limited edition piano, the “Arabesque”, which is being created by the famed furniture designer Dakota Jackson.  This commemorative piano is expected to go on sale later this Fall and will be available in two finishes.

Steinway & Sons pianos really are a great example of craftsmanship that is rarely seen today.  We’ve included a listing of all of their anniversary stops in the US below, which is a great event for music lovers and history buffs alike.  More information can be found on the official Steinway & Sons website.
