2012 New York City Steuben Parade Weekend Recap

By Darlene Fuchs on Email

For the first time, German Pulse headed New York City to take part in the country’s largest German-American parade, the Steuben Parade.  Over a three-day period, German Pulse and the Chicago Rheinischer Verein took a team of 12 people to take part in a long weekend of festivities.  German Pulse, along with over 20 groups from Germany, started the weekend off by attending a Welcome Ceremony on Friday, September 14th. The Mayor’s Office representative, Herb Seeff and Michael Rabus from the German-American NYC Steuben Parade P.R.Commitee, and Norbert Schramm, Olympic figure skater, all received special German Pulse polo shirts as gifts.

The Ground Zero Memorial was the next stop for the German Pulse team. This incredible tribute to the thousands of heroes lost on September 11, 2001 and innocent victims that perished is a must see for anyone visiting NYC.   Located at the site of the former Wold Trade Center complex, it covers approximately half of the 16-acre site and features two enormous waterfall reflecting pools, each about an acre in size.

Friday evening German Pulse attended the Steuben Parade Gala aboard the Hornblower Infinity, the tallest and most elegant yacht in the New York harbor. Everyone enjoyed this elegant, black-tie affair complete with dinner and entertainment by “Spitze”, all while sailing around the spectacular Manhattan skyline with phenomenal views of the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge.

After 4 hours of sleep, German Pulse and the Rheinischer Verein von Chicago headed to Fox News where we were all part of the ‘Fox and Friends’ TV show.  Thanks to Lenny Coyne for making this appearance possible. For those of you up early, I’m sure you spotted the “Green Shirts”.

German Pulse had the honor of leading the “Continental Division” this year in the Parade, which included the Karnevalgesellschaft Rheinischer Verein von Chicago, German World Magazine from California, along with groups from Florida, Maryland, Philadelphia, Connecticut, New York City, Rhode Island and other states.

Thank you to everyone that marched with German Pulse on September 15th in the NYC 55th German-American Steuben Parade, a highlight in New York City’s calendar of festivities and the largest German-American event of this kind in the US.  The Parade is attended by thousands of marchers and viewed by hundreds of thousands of spectators around the world since it was broadcast live on PBS and online at Germany.info. I’m sure German Pulse will be included on the final DVD, since we had 3 lovely little girls marching with us and the cameras seemed to love them.

Needless to say, the “Green Shirts” were visible in NYC.  Traffic on the website Saturday tripled and the feedback we are receiving is amazing.

Thank you once again to Hofbräu and Marshall Wolf Automation, our two anchor sponsors this year.  Please consider being a personal or corporate sponsor of German Pulse in the future.  Your donations make events like this possible and help in creating an interactive network for German Americans to find the latest news, reviews, events, business trends, and so much more. Whether it is a one time donation or one of our monthly plans, we greatly appreciate any support you can provide. Our donation page is located at GermanPulse.com/donate.

Next year German Pulse will once again attend the Chicago and NYC Steuben Parades and we hope more of you will be able to attend and look forward to another great time.  And for more photos and video, head on over to our Facebook page.
