Dairy Dogs is a walk-up restaurant in Sycamore, IL that from a distance looks like your average outdoor hot dog and ice cream eatery, but this place has some obvious German flare. German food is served everyday along with the more traditional American staples, but once a year Dairy Dogs likes to bring some special attention to their German roots by putting together a spectacular German Fest. (read our review from last year)
On August 18 from 2-10pm, Dairy Dogs will be serving up a great variety of German food that is all made fresh by owner Margret Schrant and her talented cooks. The menu consists of several sausages, an outstanding schnitzel sandwich, baked sauerkraut, German potato salad, and Margret’s famous Käse Spätlze.
Delicious German food is not the only thing German about German Fest. Similar to last year’s event, German DJ, Music Source, will be providing a range of German hits from the more traditional to some modern festival hits. Throughout the day you will find the Egerländer Tanz Gruppe warming up the dance floor where attendees can join in on the dancing fun. (see our video below from the 2011 German Fest)
If you can make it out to Dairy Dogs for their German Fest, we highly recommend it. Enjoy some German fun on a smaller scale and meet-up with some great German-Americans. Even if you cannot make it on August 18, pay them a visit anytime to still get a taste of their authentic hand-made German food and a great ice cream treat for desert. They are located at 675 E. State Street in Sycamore, IL.
