New German Club Forming in the Fox Valley Region of Wisconsin

Update: Shortly after publishing this story, we were informed that there has been a delay in the startup of this club.  We’ll keep you posted on any progress.

We stumbled upon some exciting news in the Fox Valley region of Wisconsin… when there are so many German-American organizations closing their doors due to a lack of interest or leadership, a brand new club is opening up and they plan to reignite the German American interest in the surrounding communities.

The German-American Communal Society (GACS) Fox Valley has three goals in mind for their organization: Facilitate new interest and preservation of German customs, educate the general public on the subject of German-American contributions and culture, and provide community fellowship/stewardship through the use of community service projects. That third goal is what really gets us excited. Helping the community is a great service that many German-American clubs overlook and it is a great opportunity to display a positive image of Germans.

If you’re expecting a club filled with old and grumpy Germans, getting around with walkers and wheelchairs, think again. Jason Adler, the founder of the group, is trying to make it a family organization with members ranging from the 20-50 age group, and of course kids.  Adler told German Pulse that:

I’m a father of 4 young children and it’s because of them that this endeavor has become very important to me. It has become very important to me to first learn and then preserve our German cultural heritage, which has been largely lost in our family, and then integrate that culture into my children’s lives. So, that all said, I think it’s a natural fit that any club that I may start and run, will target families and anything I plan to do will need to be family friendly.

GACS will be holding its first meeting/meet and greet on Friday, May 11th, from 5:30-7:30pm at the Old Bavarian Restaurant in Appleton, WI. This is a chance for you to get involved from the very beginning and help shape the organization into something great for the latest generation of German Americans. The website and RSVP info can be found in the source link.
