Masskrugstemmen, which roughly translates to mug stemming is a well-known Bavarian sport which consists of lifting a liter mug of beer with your arm extended and stretched straight out.  The goal of the competition is simple… be the last person to hold the filled stein without bending your arm.  It may sound simple, but you may be surprised at the weight of a liter of beer.

In the US there are regional competitions held by Hofbräu, and the winners all meet at in New York City during the Steuben parade for the US Championship.  The winner of the National title receives a trip for two to Munich for three days to get a guided tour at the Hofbräu Brewery and dinner at the famous Hofbräuhaus.

Below is a video we took during this years National Championship were the competition was won by Jerry Karn of Strongsville, OH, representing Hofbräuhaus Newport, KY with a time of 8 minutes 52 seconds!
