5 Facebook Pages to Check Out

By Stephen Fuchs on Email @StephenWFuchs

There is no doubt that social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter have changed the way we use the internet and access information.  If businesses and organizations want to get their message out, having a social media presence is crucial.  German organizations are always looking for ways to reach out to a new crowd, but a surprising amount of them are not making themselves visible on the social networks that this new crowd is gravitating to.

In the near future I will be addressing that issue directly, but for now I will be showcasing 5 Facebook pages that are actively reaching out to the social media community.

German Wisconsin

German Wisconsin is a great Facebook page to be a fan of if you live in the Wisconsin area. With a constant stream of updates, often several new posts a day, you can be sure that you are up to date with the latest on the German culture in Wisconsin. Visit

DANK-HAUS German Cultural Center

Similar to the German Wisconsin page, DANK-HAUS German Cultural Center gets you up to date with the German American community and culture in the Chicago area.  Members of the Chicago chapter of DANK will find this Facebook page very useful since it constantly highlights the newest events and news for the chapter. Visit

Young Germany

The Facebook page for the Young Germany website is a unique place to find information on German news and culture all in English.  There is an extra emphasis on providing information for people interested in studying, doing research, or working in Germany, but you will find that there is a lot more than that to be discovered on their page. Visit

German

If you want to learn or brush up on the German language, this Facebook page will give you a new word of the day to learn.  Most of the words are ones that you would use in common situations over in Germany.  Periodically, the page will post some interesting articles, not always based on language.  The page is managed by Transparent Language and they have several other similar pages set up for different languages.   Visit

German Embassy Washington

While an embassy page may sound boring, the German Embassy in Washington seems to put in the effort to post interesting topics.  You will find out about their latest efforts on promoting the German culture and heritage in the States, including information on upcoming cultural events such as live concerts.    Visit

Stephen Fuchs
Stephen founded German Pulse and LGBT Germany out of a passion to introduce Americans to a Germany that goes beyond beer and polka (although with enough beer he has been known to polka it up a bit). He's a coffee addict, lover of wine and good times, a hit in the kitchen and editor of TV commercials. You can follow him on Twitter (@StephenWFuchs) to find out a lot more.
